Despite a beautiful red sky sunset last night, the saying ' Red sky at night sailors delight,' does'nt always ring true with an horrendous day up here on the tops with dense fog and a mix of heavy rain then drizzle throughout never coming light and still no sign of the fog lifting. The only aspect of the weather that the forecasters fluffed up on was the strong easterly never developed just reaching E>3 at its peak.
No venture out today birding-wise with just 4 good dog walking soakings over Foxhill but not a bird seen in the fog. With the amount of rain come down, no doubt Fly Flatts will have lost all its exposed shore and will be back over the overflow. Because of the amount of conduit up there over the moors the reservoir will continue to fill for the next 3 days so looking sad for any July waders.
Hopefully, Leeshaw will have retained some shore with less inlets and a better outlet but I think now the attention will be on the increasing gulls and fly-overs rather than waders.
Looking dry and cloudy for morning on a moderate SW so at least the wind is moving away from the east.
