Poor weather conditions at Fly Flatts

1 of 3 Common Sandpiper

                                Male Wheatear

                                    Juv Wheatear
                                    Single Oystercatcher

                                    Good visibility
                                Still, reflective water.
                                    Plenty Goldfinch and Bumble Bee.

Too sunny, too hot and too calm were the conditions this morning at Fly Flatts with 10% cloud, full sun at 12 degrees and dead calm, developing into a welcome light SW>2 by 0915hrs.
As expected , in these conditions, things were very quiet and disappointedly the water is still up to the overflow with very little exposed shore.
Wader-wise, 3 Common Sandpiper were present along with 1 Oystercatcher and a few Lapwings plus a single Snipe, flushed by the lagoon. Curlews seem to be well gone now.
Just the usual Greylags and Canadas on the water along with 2 drake Mallard and 5 Black Headed gull. Small passerines were poor with just a handful of Mipits plus several Goldfinch and Linnets but good to get the first returning adult male Wheatear plus, the local bred juv. The male Wheatear was just showing signs of moulting into autumn plumage.
The clear blue skies were empty, other than 2 Swallows and 3 juv Pied Wagtails flitting around.
Back to normal with the forecast tomorrow with full heavy cloud and rain on a moderate NW. That should liven things up a bit.
