juv Common Sandpiper
Sign of dispersion, juv Robin.
Water safety training morning
Every man and his dog here today.
A clear dry start to the morning with full dark cloud on a light W>2 turning N>3 at 9 degrees.
Rain by 0945 hrs.
A relatively quiet morning with the compound area taken over with training sessions and rescue boats out on the water. A pair of Common Sandpiper were on the west bank along with a juv which looks about half way to fledging whilst a second pair were on the south bank.
Another sign of dispersion, other than moving Curlews, was a juv Robin in the lagoon tree, a species seldom seen at this site. A Short Eared Owl was quartering a distant moor whilst 2 Raven and 5 LBB gulls were overhead along with plenty Swallows and Swifts.
No sign of the Ringed Plovers this morning but no access through the compound to scope the east bank. The heavy rain this afternoon will no doubt top the reservoir back up to the overflow again.
On the way home a Wheatear was seen briefly at Slade. This is the only June sighting I've ever had of Wheatear, other than a pair that bred several years ago at Fly Flatts.
Looking like a clear dry start to the morning but heavy rain and thunderstorms promised before midday on a moderate westerly.
