Another new life for Fly Flatts (permit only)

                                         Long staying female Ringed Plover
                                          Plumage now very worn

                                                  juv Dunlin
much larger than other Dunlin, alpina race.

                                             adult breeding Dunlin, schinzii

                                       a rare sighting, chick Dunlin
Hope this lasts longer than the Ringed Plover chick.

                                         adult with chick

A grizzly morning at Fly Flatts with fog then mist with a moderate W>4 bringing heavy drizzle and rain throughout the watch at 10 degrees.
Hard work this morning with poor visibility and no view across the water until 0930 hrs when the fog lifted leaving mist and rain.
The breeding Dunlin I,ve been watching over the last few weeks appeared this morning on the shoreline along with a very young chick. This is unusual behavior for Dunlin as the chicks are kept on the moor until ready for fledging so seldom seen at this early age. The previous 2 juv Dunlin were also present, schinzii and alpina, the latter being much larger and longer billed than the adult Dunlin.
Just 3 Common Sandpiper, 2 Redshank and the female Ringed Plover otherwise but no visibility across to the north shore and cloud too low for anything skyward.
