Fly Flatts/ Ogden, passerine day.

FLY FLATTS                            The east wind brought in the Wheatears
                                            At least 9 present

                                           As well as 5 Stonechat.

2 Ringed Plover out on the peninsular
OGDEN                      2 Gt Crested Grebe still catching fish.
Herring and LBB on the water
                                            3rd cycle Herring gull
                                         A Chiffchaff in every tree

                                              In full song
                                             several Treecreepers
                                                           Grey Wagtail
                                            more Chiffchaffs

With a good easterly this distant small gull had a good chance of Little gull
Unfortunately not. First Black Headed Ive had for 2 weeks.
                                           2nd cycle Herring
Black Headed is also 2nd cycle

A cold E>4 blowing at Fly Flatts early morn with full cloud at 3 degrees and still ice on the lagoon.
Not surprisingly the east wind had delivered the goods with at least 9 Wheatear and 5 Stonechat just in one area along with 3 Reed Bunting.
A Common Sandpiper called from the west banking area but managed to dodge me as it sounded to cross the water not to be re located. The Ringed Plover pair were on the distant peninsular along with 2 Redshank nearby.
Just a Raven over plus the usual Curlews and Lapwings with Canadas and Mallards on the water.
No gulls whatsoever.
Mid p.m. and I risked Ogden on a bright afternoon and school holidays which was a bit ambitious but turned out fairly quiet even though the car park was near full.
A walk around the circumference track found it lively with Chiffchaffs and Treecreepers
but no sign of a tit flock other than one or two loose birds.
The 2 Gt Crested Grebe were still catching well whilst 9 LBB gull and 2 Herring were on the water with a single small gull near the opposite bank in the sun. With the winds right and no Black Headeds showing over the last couple of weeks, alarm bells started ringing with dreams of Little gull.
With no scope with me I had to rely on Big Bertha to zoom it in then a check in the camera reveled, yes, you guessed it, a Black Headed. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
Looking like a day of rain and light easterlies tomorrow which should be ok as long as the fog keeps away.
