Fly Flatts a.m. / Redcar Tarn p.m.

FLY FLATTS                            Stonechat in the gloom

Redcar Tarn, Keighley        It shows its coming cold when the ducks start wearing
                                                       their ear muffs.

Not many big gulls present today
2nd winter Herring type, to look into !
                                            Very slender pointed head

                                           1st winter Herring

2nd winter Herring type  with     1st winter Herring.
                                           Looking into Herring/Caspian hybrid ?

                                                      Long tibia

No Meds among the tons of Black Headeds

A bright start to the morning at Fly Flatts but by 0845 the dreaded fog banks came drifting through leaving horizontal visibility only. A calm SW>1 increased to SW>3 mid watch at 6 degrees.
Another of those quiet mornings which are becoming all too regular at Fly Flatts but looking back at old records its nothing new at this time of year.
A single Buzzard was over the Nab before the clouds came in whilst 2 Stonechat were near the lagoon as well as several Red Grouse.
The water held just 15 Mallard and 2 Canada geese but otherwise nothing.
A check at Redcar Tarn mid afternoon was a disappointment with very few big gulls on the water and none in the fields. A couple of interesting Herrings, one of which I saw on my last visit, are worth looking into but may amount to nothing.
On my way back gulls were piling over the Flappit from the Cullingworth fields on their way to the TMR roost.
Thick fog up here in the gods tonight so looking like I,ll be heading below the cloud base in the morning.
