Quiet times but look what July can bring.

Fly Flatts. A misty low cloud start soon lifting with light rain throughout the morning along with some heavy bursts on a light S>2. By late afternoon the wind had increased slightly and turned S>3 with a mix of sunshine and cloud. The promise of thunderstorms was yet again another failed forecast.
Another day of the same Common Sandpipers and Ringed Plovers with a single Oystercatcher dropping in briefly on its way west. No sound of the Curlews today.
A small group of 6 drake Tufted on the water this morning was interesting but gone by the afternoon. Otherwise two steady watches but I,ve put together just some of the specials that turned up at Fly Flatts the previous 2 Julys. Most of these birds were seen in the second half of the month.
1st flight of last years brood of 2 Ringed Plover.

1st of the juv returning Wheatear
                                                Dunlin present throughout the month.

2 Little Egrets were a site first.

                                                    juv Wheatear

                                             Female Common Scoter

1 of 2 juv Ringed Plover
                                        Adult male
                                                      2nd juv
                                     Black Redstart

                                      Peregrines did regular patrols
                                          juv Common Sandpiper
                                            Yellow Legged Herring gull

Little Ringed Plover, mega rare at this site.
This bird left within the day.
Star attraction    Turnstone. ad in full breeding plumage.

Drake Common Scoter, a rare annual visitor through the area.

Could do with more of these, Cream Crown Marsh Harrier.

                                                             Another Yellow Legged Herring gull.
So despite the usual June/early July lull theres plenty to look forward to.
