Fly Flatts. The big wait for lift off.

                                               Common Sandpiper on guard
juv Dunlin in the lagoon area

Common Sandpiper and Ringed Plover in the boatyard.

juv Dunlin spent all day feeding

                                           Still very raggy feathered

Needs to get its body weight up for its long journey.

Good conditions this morning with full cloud and a W>4 at 12 degrees then deteriorated, bird weather wise, late afternoon with full sun at 19 degrees.
Its just a matter of waiting for around another week now before things can be expected to start happening with just small hints of movement starting to show.
Another 4 Curlew went over this morning very high and >NW with all the locals gone whilst around 40 Swifts headed >SE coinciding with yesterdays move and a big move over the east coast.
Black Headed gulls were heading >NE along with a low number of LBB gulls whilst 2 Buzzard and
3 Kestrel were in the air.
Down on the deck it was just the usual waders with the juv Dunlin frantically feeding all day on a very restricted shoreline now with the water well up. The Dunlin is probably missing its parents a bit as it spends all its time around the 2 Common Sandpipers and their 2 chicks. It even takes note of the Common Sands alert call as a YW vehicle passes and dashes for cover with the chicks.
Plenty disturbance today with YW contractors working on the west bank erecting a wind turbine and solar panels to assist with monitoring the water level.
A good shout this morning from MP with a Little Egret on his patch at Doe Park. A good reward for regular checks of his local patch. My 2 Little Egret appeared at Fly Flatts last year on the
18th July so it must be a regular time for movement. Thanks for the call Mark.
