Spring is in the air for the Canadas
A poor spring for Wheatear so far, 2 present
Usually have counts between 17 and 24 at this time.
Ringed Plover admiring its reflection
Tell how bad the birding is when you start counting toads!!
24 present in the reservoir by the slipway
Single Common Sandpiper still present
More of the hot and stagnant weather this morning with 10 degrees at 0745 hrs with a SW>2 and full sun.
The Dunlins had moved on with not enough shore to hold them but the Common Sandpiper was still present along with the 2 Ringed Plovers and 1 Redshank.
Wheatears are very slow this year with just 2 this morning whereas I,ve usually got between 17 and 24 at this time of year and still no Ring Ouzels for some strange reason even though there has been plenty around the area. Linnets are also noticeable by their absense with none so far this year.
A large group of toads were in the reservoir by the slipway, something that I,ve never seen before as they usually just appear in the lagoon and dyke area. Possible to get away from the frozen waters last week when all the spawn froze solid.
No afternoon session today as we had to go get jabbed in the arm which was about as exciting as Fly Flatts this morning.
