3 welcome guests this morning, Shelduck
2 female, 1 male.
Up and away >N
Golden Plover in the Nolstar field
Ringed Plovers using the boat compound.
Went in search of Ringed Plover and on my return they were waiting
by the car.
By late afternoon Goldie numbers were up to 83
as well as 13 Skylark.
Goldies in flight.
Another frosty morning at Fly Flatts with the lagoon frozen over but only lightly with the temp at 2 degrees on a E>3 turning SE>3 mid afternoon with clear skies and sunshine until nearing the end of the watch when the sky clouded and heavy hail showers could be seen all around the lower ground but missing Fly Flatts.
Three distant white blobs at the north end of the water turned out to be 2 female and 1 male Shelduck when I walked the west bank. The trio didnt stay long before lifting off and away high and north.
No small waders to be found this morning but the pair of Ringed Plovers appeared this afternoon. I walked the west bank the full length checking the bank and shore but nothing until I got back into the boat compound to find the pair at the side of my car. They spent the rest of the afternoon around the compound.
Very little else of note other than 2 LBBs on the water before heading off >SE.
A check of the Nolstar field on my way this morning produced 48 Golden Plovers whilst a check mid afternoon on my way back up to the reservoir produced around 40 giving some good aerial displays. Good to bump into Mick Harrop up there checking out the Goldies, always good to put a face to a name.
On the way home, another check of the Goldies found the numbers had increased to 83 with 13 Skylark in the same field.
