Way out in the middle of the water as usual
A moderate SW>4 with low cloud base and drizzle is an ideal combination for Fly Flatts for bringing something in and today was no exception with a female Common Scoter on the water throughout the day. It spent this morning feeding then late afternoon it flew a circuit of the water before settling down to sleep in the centre of the water where I left it as I came away. More than likely it will leave tonight. With the water being down I only had 1 male and 1 female last year so hopefully I,ll make up for it this year. Best count for here was 27 on 4th July 2011 found by DJS.
The weather also saw 1 Ringed Plover over >SE as well as a group of 48 Lapwing over high and >W whilst a female Teal was on the water plus a report of a Cormorant here midday DJS, a rare bird for this fish less site.
The male Ringed Plover and 1 juvenile were still present in the ponds early morning but no re located late afternoon, though heavy rain made scoping difficult.
