The Fly Flatts Barnacle and mate
An early morning trip to Leeshaw reservoir found it just below the fog line with misty skies on a light E>3.
Unusual for Leeshaw but it was very quiet with the mist blanking any sky movement and all the Lapwings, Snipe, Curlews, Oystercatchers and Redshank settling down in the fields ready for breeding. Just Mallards on the water along with the usual geese.
Late afternoon and wandering around like a lost sheep with no Fly Flatts I headed for Cold Edge Dams in warm sunshine and hazy skies.
In the plantation 3 Willow Warblers were singing and 2 Reed Buntings were in the heather whilst up on Leadbeater dam 2 pair of Tufted were among the Mallards and Canada geese. Haigh Cote dam just had a few Mallard whilst Spring dam had a Heron in the reeds but no sign of the resident Little Grebe.
The Fly Flatts Barnacle goose was in the field with its Canada mate along with about 100 Canadas and 10 Greylag plus a few Curlews. No fly overs in the hazy sky other than a few Lapwing.
Not what I call an enjoyable days birding but it filled a gap until I get myself sorted out.
