Bath time for this Meadow Pipit
1 of 3 female Wheatear
1 of 2 male Wheatear
A real mixed bag of weather today starting with fog then mist followed by rain this morning. This afternoon brought sunshine, thunder storms, hail and torrential rain showers.
Driving back from Tong garden centre the weather was horrendous with hailstones the size of half crowns coming down so heavy that at one point the traffic nearly ground to a halt with no visibility.
Luckily, late afternoon I picked a slot at Fly Flatts with clear skies, sunshine and a stiff SSE>5 blowing. Birding this afternoon was quiet with the usual Common Sands, Redshanks and Wheatears with 15 first year Herring gulls on the north shore whilst 2 Buzzards were mega high in the sky.
Now that I am confined to the south east corner and boat yard area I have to rely on scoping much more so today I was pleased at the way my Kowa 80 scope with a 20-60 zoom performed which I have had since Adam was a lad. I traded an old scope in and renewed it with this one back in the late 90s for vis mig work at TMR. During the last few days I,ve stripped it down and given it a thorough overhaul . I was thinking of replacing it until I looked at the prices of decent scopes now, the price of cameras, big lenses, scopes and binoculars have gone up out of all proportion now, especially for someone like me with my track record of wrecking tackle.
