Fly Flatts p.m.

Big gulls on the north shore, highly unusual here
                                         63 Herring , 4  LBB
Mega distance in the heat shimmer but just shows the
                volume of gulls present.
                                             Common Sands pairing up now.

1500 hrs at Fly Flatts with 80 % cloud cover , hazy sunshine and a cool wind strengthened to E>4.
The highlight this afternoon was big gulls on the north shore which is unusual to find at this venue, it not being a gull friendly reservoir due to the peat bankings making the water very acidic. Scoping long distance from the boatyard through a strong heat shimmer, 63 Herring gulls were present, nearly all sub adults, along with 4 LBBs.
Once again, as this morning, the only waders present were Redshanks, Common Sandpipers, Snipe , Curlews, Goldies and Lapwings whilst a Peregrine flew over the moor and several Kestrel were around the area.
Seems strange not walking the west bank but I,m managing to work around it and just in the process of giving my scope its annual service as its going to get plenty use from now having to bird some of the bankings from a greater distance.
