SE corner
A haven for waders.
Across to the peninsular
east side cobbled bank
Big gulls piling through, Herring gull
Some Herrings came through low over the water
as well as over the moor.
2nd year Herring
Lesser Black Backed.
Curlew in to land
1500 hrs at Fly Flatts and superb conditions for activating some movement though not very pleasant to bird in. The Fly Flatts favourite wind was blowing from the west reaching near gale W>7 gusting 8 at 39 m.p.h. with squally showers of mainly drizzle rather than heavy rain.
The area was buzzing with Common Sandpipers, Redshank and Curlew scurrying around the SE corner whilst big gulls were the star of the show with a total of
73 LBBs, 58 Herrings and 19 Black Headeds all moving >NW into the weather rather than their usual direction of >NE. Several stopped off briefly either on the water, the north bank or the peninsular before heading off again. The gulls came through on 2 levels with some mid height whilst others skimmed the water or the moor coming through very low.
Other than the gulls , 7 Oystercatchers and 2 Cormorants came through in the worst of the weather also >NW and reasonably high.
A real spectacular afternoon to be up there.
