The Morecambe Bay of Calderdale.....Fly Flatts.

Shoreline alive with Ringed Plover and Dunlin.

                                  3 of 11 Dunlin,    1 of 9 Ringed plover

                                       4 of 9 Ringed Plover

Fly Flatts  1500 hrs  SW>4 , full grey cloud cover with light drizzle showers, another day of ideal wader weather conditions. As soon as I arrived and scanned the shoreline I could see waders dashing around the waters edge on the soft mud busily feeding.
A closer inspection gave me a count of 9 Ringed Plover and 11 Dunlin with Plover numbers up from yesterday. Possibly more birds will drop in ahead of the approaching weather front tonight.
The Dunlins are a much slower bird steadily probing the mud in a methodical fashion whereas the Ringed Plovers race backwards and forwards along the shore probing and then dashing on to a new area.
Good to bump into Martyn Hayes and his good lady up there checking out the waders, reminding me of the 90s when we used to vis mig on Windy Corner. Martyn smartly picked up 2 Green Sandpipers on call heading >W.
So another great day at Fly Flatts making me wonder what,s going to show up next.
