Canada geese with 2 remaining chicks from 4.
Very vulnerable with the fellow in the pic
below hanging around.
Hooded/ Carrion crow already taken 2 of the chicks
Also likes bread
Interesting markings and a real bruiser of a bird
Face to face
I know birders should,nt like squirrels but I do.
This one was at the top of the Dailies
Cllr Paul Cromie has been watching the progress of a pair of Canada geese which built a nest on the island of his garden pond and hatched 4 young.
All was well until the above crow arrived on the scene quickly taking 2 of the young in one day.
A sickened Paul, his wife Linda and mother Rita are now on patrol hoping to save the other 2 goslings, not an easy task. Paul has already has to return the 2 young to the pond after they fell over the banking and down some stairs.
I went down at lunch time and managed to see the crow on the banking by the pond which has very interesting markings nearly like a hybrid Hooded/ Carrion
Watch this space for the end results.
A lunch time check today of Old Guy Road and the Dailie fields was poor with a few Mipits and Swallows and still no sign of Wheatear on the cricket pitch.
