Waiting for the Goldeneye

                                Previous winter Goldeneye, drake

                                             Female Goldeneye

Usually by late November, early December Goldeneye can been seen on our waters as they disperse around the country and by January they begin to hang around longer at the local reservoirs.
So far only an odd record has come in and surprisingly yesterday and today produced no sightings despite Ogden, Mixenden, Lower Laithe, Leeshaw, Leeming and Ponden reservoirs being checked .
The mild November is taking its toll on bird movement with birds happy to stay put with food supplies not affected by freezing temperatures.

Thanks today for a report from Craig the firefighter of 2 pair of Goosander on Mixenden reservoir which were confirmed by NK. These birds will probably have been stopping off on route to the Goosander roost at Oxenhope.

All quiet up on the tops here today with yet more banks of fog drifting through.
Good numbers of big gulls were coming over the garage > N at 1530 hrs on their way to the roost at Oxenhope.
