Atrocious weather and Gt Northern Diver

             A grim Mixenden Reservoir
           First sighting in the distance
Iffy zoom shots in the rain

With a quick hospital appointment leaving me with a full dinner hour I could contain it no longer so shot off to Mixenden for the Gt Nth Diver not expecting it to stay till the weekend.
The weather was horrendous with a gale force WSW>7 gusting 8 with horizontal heavy rain and drizzle.
The water looked empty other than a few gulls with visibility  poor but after a bit of eye straining the diver came into view at the far end of the reservoir.
Reluctantly and short of time I dashed on the banking to the far end only to find the bird was now near the west shoreline and with the wind and rain full in my face I had no chance of photos.
Next move was to dash round to the west bank into the trees where I managed some distant shots before it went under and re appeared in the middle.
Back round on the east bank I sat on the wet cobble banking watching the bird forgetting about the weather being amazed at being sat at Mixenden reservoir actually watching a Great Northern Diver.
Well done to DJS for finding such a great bird.
On the way back Raggalds Flood held 83 Small gulls, 2 LBBs and 13 Lapwing.
