Start of the hirundines, Leeshaw

                                    2 of 3 LBB gulls
                                    drake Goosander

Still to check, pale yellow legs

                                    2 Herring gull present
                                    Moorhen over the water
                                Dipper heading upstream.

The promised fog was dense over the tops early morn but Leeshaw was clear with full cloud cover on a light WSW>2 at 5 degrees.
Much quieter from my last visit with only 5 Oystercatcher and 8 Curlew present, the others now dispersed for breeding plus no sign of any Redshank. A single male Goosander dropped onto the water along with 3 LBB gulls as well as 2 Herring gull although one was slightly darker with pale yellow legs which is odd for a 1 cy bird. A single Moorhen was also on the water as well as the usual Canadas, Greylags and Mallards.
Down in the beck, a Dipper flew upstream and a pair of Pied Wagtails were on the banking.
Sky watching for Osprey failed to provide but the first Swallow of the year came through, high and fast >NW, 2 days earlier than last year, closely followed by a single Sand Martin. Unfortunately I had just been taking pictures of the Herring gulls on the tower using the 1.4 convertor which slows down the auto focus, so just a few blurred blobs, photo wise of the Swallow.
Looking half decent for tomorrow with a moderate westerly and good visibility.
