Greylag numbers increasing
Curlew in to land
Plenty Mipits
What was meant to be the best morning of the week weather wise turned out to be the worst with a moderate WSW>4 bringing drizzle and rain across the moor with very dark clouds causing silhouetting at 7 degrees.
A very poor morning compared to exactly the opposite yesterday but, ' if you don't go, you dont know'. Very quiet with little movement, either on the water or in the air. Even the geese were sticking to the long grass on the north bank whilst only a couple of Curlew were in the air compared to yesterdays good count.
The usual pair of Ringed Plover were on the west bank along with 6 Oystercatchers but no sign of the Common Sandpiper, although I did'nt go especially looking for it.
Yesterdays drake Teal did a fast fly-over across the water disappearing under the north bank whilst a Kestrel worked the west bank.
The fields on the way back were empty and no sign of Linnets. Strange what makes these birds tick with one day buzzing and the next quiet, even though weather conditions were mostly the same.
A cloudy day for tomorrow on a light SW with a full mashing of fog for morning.
