Birding in the clouds, Fly Flatts.

Several Herring as well as LBBs >NE
                                Peering through the fog
                            Female Pied Wag nest building.

                                    Still several Ringed Plovers.
                                    Female

As promised this morning, thick fog, worsening as the morning went on. Visibility across the water first thing then reduced to midway across by mid morning then complete shut down by 0945 hrs. The fog continued to come and go throughout the day up here on the tops at Queensbury. A moderate and cold NE>4 at 7 degrees failed to clear the sky.
Swifts were the bird of the morning with a continuous steady flow >N throughout the watch whilst Herring and LBB gulls moved >NE low over the water.
Otherwise it was a matter of walking the bankings and checking for any new waders along the waters edge which just produced the usual Ringed Plovers, Common Sandpipers, Redshanks and Oystercatchers.
Still plenty Wheatears, probably held down by the fog, whilst a female Mallard drifted past with 17 newly hatched ducklings in tow.
On the way back the fog was clearer by Nolstar where at least 5 Golden Plover were present.
A brighter, warmer day tomorrow but still a light NE breeze so its all down to where the fog lies.
