Fly Flatts(permit only) / Mixenden Reservoir.

FLY FLATTS                  Low cloud over the turbines.
Mist in the Dean Head valley.
                                               Sun making a break through
MIXENDEN                       Gulls on the east bank.
                                    Cormorant                LBB                           Herring

                                                                                             Herring
                                     LBB                                 Herring in the water

A foggy start to the morning at Fly Flatts but it looked restricted to the highest point so I took a gamble and went up there which paid off with the fog clearing after about 15 minutes leaving bright blue skies with just occasional fog banks moving through. A mild W>3 at 7 degrees.
As the fog cleared a flock of 28 Fieldfare headed west soon disappearing into the misty moor whilst 3 Raven were squabbling over the Nab.
Just small gulls today with 8 Commons >SE and 3 Black Headed >S. Otherwise it was just down to a single Kestrel and 7 Red Grouse. The sky looked good for Pinks but no reports heard of  today.
A mid afternoon visit to Mixenden was once again too late to get many big gulls as with the short days they move off early to their roosting site. Just 6 Herring and 2 LBBs along with the usual small gulls on the east bank and water along with a single Cormorant which later dived and came up with a good sized Roach which it quickly swallowed in one go.
Two Ravens flew over Ogden golf course heading towards Fly Flatts but otherwise nothing else about.
Good to meet DJS up there and catch up on news since our last meeting.
With a light wind from the east tomorrow its looking like a few days of fog to come , hopefully it will stick in the valleys, nothing personal if you live in the valley !!
