Leeshaw Vis Mig. An afternoon with the gulls at Fly Flatts. Plus the problem with Caspians.

A mornings watch at Leeshaw to get below the cloud base once again found plenty to see but nothing special and no great counts with the only real clear sky to the NW.
Results can be seen on Trektellen headed Fly Flatts.

Fly Flatts, an afternoon with the gulls.

6 Teal came in on the water.

A good count of big gulls

                                             80% LBB  20% Herring.

All distant on the North shore

Fly Flatts late afternoon had a cold WNW>4 but clear conditions.
With much more shoreline now showing ,as the water rapidly drains , big gulls are being attracted down with 138 big gulls, 80% Lesser Black Backed and 20% Herring along with 24 Black Headed.
Hopefully the numbers will build making a good chance of that special bird arriving. I,ve had several Yellow Legged Herring so far this year so must be due for a Med or white winged gull as well as a Caspian.
Otherwise things were quiet with nothing in the sky other than gulls whilst the water held 6 Teal and 51 Mallard.
My suspected Caspian gull from the 17th has been in front of my gull panel,
KM/MC and has been confirmed as a Yellow Legged Herring gull with detailed id explanation from both parties.
Once again many thanks to Mick and Keith for their undying interest in the gulls on my blog , both of which I don,t seem to be able to wear down but don,t worry lads, with gull season upon us I,ll be back with yet more of the same until I finally strike gold.
Ironically my suspected Caspian at Fly Flatts on the 17/10 was found just 2 years and 1 day from my genuine Caspian at Fly Flatts on the 16/10/2017.
Just to show the similarities , although the genuine Cas is a year younger bird, these are pics of the two.

My recent Yellow Legged Herring gull

                                         My genuine Caspian
