A drafty morning up on the tops with a W>5 increasing to 6 late afternoon. Visibility was good at 10 degrees with 6/8 okts cloud cover with some very black clouds bringing light showers in the morning and torrential showers p.m.
Despite the strong wind and rain I had a good selection of passing birds with some unusual sightings over with 39 Jackdaws and 12 Carrion Crow, both unusual for this site with both groups high and >S.
Swallows continued to come , both a.m. and p.m. whilst Meadow Pipits began to liven up slightly. With only 4 Canada geese present since post breeding it was a surprise to have 227 on the north bank before heading towards Cold Edge. The security man told me that they come over at around 1900 hrs each evening to roost on the shore then head back each morning between 0730 and 0800 hrs.
This time last year I had a Pintail on the water 1st and 2nd Sept and a Ruff on the shoreline 2nd Sept so see what tomorrow brings.
