Fly Flatts a.m. Ogden p.m. and a Kittiwake look alike.

Just 3 Tufted left at Fly Flatts now

                                                 BHGs at Ogden
Common in among them which I thought was a Kittiwake

Only very short primary projection and no white dotting with
Kittiwake head shape but white primary tips put it to Common gull.
The primaries could be hidden by the ruffled feathers.

                                                  1 of 3 Cormorant

Even Mallard can be interesting to photogragh

A terrible day throughout with Fly Flatts this morning starting dark and dull quickly deteriorating to
8/8 cloud cover with low scud clouds moving through limiting visibility with rain throughout on a S>3 at 10 degrees. By the end of the watch the fog was rolling in and remained the rest of the day.
Ogden p.m. was below the cloud base but dark with drizzle and poor visibility.
A short burst of movers through Fly Flatts first thing but this soon stopped as the rain got heavier. Again no waders with empty shorelines whilst a Red Grouse flew over the south bank, the first I,ve seen since early summer, there seems to be a real shortage again this year after another poor breeding season.
With the fog thick on the tops in the afternoon it was a dog walk at Ogden just sticking to the promenade area. The Mallard numbers are now growing, post breeding, whilst 3 Cormorants were present along with 38 Black Headed gulls and a single Common gull. The Common gull had me thinking Kittiwake with the head shape and position in the water and only showing a short primary projection and no white dotting on the primaries. With no scope, in the conditions, I took some shots which when down loaded showed white wing tips on the primaries putting it to a Common gull so possibly its just the way its feathers appear ruffled covering the primaries although I,m still not over happy with it.
All quiet otherwise so back home and see what tomorrow brings which will probably be fog looking out of the window now.
