Fog and Greenland Wheatears, Fly Flatts, (no public access).

                                      9 Wheatear feeding on maggots

                                                              juv

                                    Greenland Wheatear ( leucorhoa)

Much larger bruiser of a bird , long legged with
             bright orange buff underside.

2 Barnacles in with the Canadas.

A bright clear morning when I left home , that was until I got to the Withins, when the sun disappeared and I drove into low cloud, once again hanging over the west ridge but clear over the water to the height of the Nab. Heavy drizzle showers throughout on a SW>4 . By 0900 hrs it was lights out with dense fog so once again an early finish.
The afternoon watch started bright with the wind increased to SW>5 but an hour into the watch the mist and heavy rain rolled back in.
Some early movement but once again short lived and the afternoons watch was quiet but spent getting some Wheatear shots with 2 cracking Greenlands standing out from the other birds present by sheer size and colour and both very aggressive towards the Northerns.
The attraction for Wheatears is a dead sheep thats been on the east shore a few days now quickly deteriorating and is surrounded with maggots which the Wheatears seem to love.
