Fly Flatts, p.m. (no public access)

Match abandoned this morning due to thick fog but cleared up by this afternoons watch with good visibility, WNW>5, 6/8 okts at 12 degrees. Some light drizzle showers.
A short lived move late afternoon after the fog had cleared with the unusual sight of a Jay very high and >W moving much earlier than usual up here.
Two Short Eared Owls were quartering the north end of the reservoir whilst 3 Wheatear were in the boat compound.
The six remaining male Tufted are still on the water in eclipse with the females moved on, possibly the males are unable to fly whilst in the moult. A real lull is taking place with waders at the moment with empty shore lines and not a wader in sight.
The last few days of rain has risen the water level up so part of the islands are now submerged but still enough showing to tempt something in along with acres of muddy shoreline.
Hopefully a better and more active day tomorrow although there looks like there could be a good chance of fog in the morning.

PS... The Black Redstart , possibly due to the strong winds, is tending to stick to the shelter of the old buildings below the Withins Head farmhouse . It flicks out of the building and tends to land on the old blue tractor but remains very elusive. This area is out of view from the lay by above the farmhouse so viewing is best from the cattle grid area.
The track down to the farm is strictly private.
