Fly Flatts today and some of last years Fly Flatts Common Scoters

                                     2018 Fly Flatts Common Scoters.
1 fly over only this year so far. This will be the first year
ever that I,ve had none on the water if none appear.
The low water level may be the thing thats deterring them.
Plus its not deep enough for them to dive now.

The Scoters unique type of dive.

                                                            all photos B.S.

Fly Flatts. A reasonable day with 7/8 okts cloud cover most of the morning and afternoon watch with the afternoon seeing some very black storm clouds and rain showers. Visibility was good on a SW>4.
A bit of interesting sky movement with Golden Plovers, Curlew and oddly, for this early in the season, 8 Mistle Thrush over the area.
Luckily there was no Peregrine present today but no waders either with the east shore line just holding the usual geese, Mallards , Teal and 6 Raven at one point. Wheatears and Stonechat were still present.
Work on the reservoir is due to commence on the 19th of August so if I,m due any Scoters this time they had better hurry up whilst there is still water present.
