Fly Flatts, a.m. p.m.

Ad Lesser Black Backed gull going into moult.
                                 Female Tufted
                                            1 of 2 Peregrines
                                              2nd bird
Taken way over the water on the east shore

1 of 2 Wheatear on Robin Rocks

A real mixed bag of weather today with a strong SW>5 this morning with heavy rain turning to drizzle. By 0945 hrs the sky started to clear and by late afternoon there was blue skies and cloudy sunshine with the wind down to SW>4. Visibility was clear throughout.
A quiet start to the day with the Peregrine patrolling the east bank, only moving off when the heavy rain started. At 0945 hrs as the sky brightened the flood gates opened with Swallows piling through under the lee of the eastern ridge all >S along with House Martins and Swifts. 3 high Buzzards moved over >SW whilst the female Tufted was on the water. This duck is probably a juvenile having no sign of head tuft at all which got me trying to get it into a juv Scaup but the bill pattern looks right for Tufted.
With blue skies and sunshine in the afternoon the skies were quiet and the Peregrine situation had got worse with now 2 birds on the east bank so again, a wader less day which will be the coming theme if these Peregrines dont find a new hunting ground.
A Common gull was unusual on the water whilst 2 Wheatear were on the Robin Rocks.
The last day of solitude tomorrow at Fly Flatts for me with Bentleys moving in to start work on Monday so see what happens next. The water is still well up with the rain even though the drain is well open now. Work is suppose to be at the north end to start with so I,m hoping it will push any waders lower down the east shore and hopefully scare the Peres away.
