A full day of heavy rain and fog up here in the Gods making me abort this mornings watch and hope for better weather by late afternoon which didnt really happen.
By 1430 hrs it was still raining but much lighter than this morning, but with fog still on the tops I headed down to Mixenden Reservoir where it was clear but very dark and wet.
A single Moorhen was the only wildfowl present which flushed as I was walking through the west bank wood hoping for my bogey bird, Woodcock, but this looks like another year without this species, my last being Soil Hill 2014, and one over the prom at Ogden,2016.
All I was left with now was gull watching with 48 Black Headed on the east bank and several more heading high and >N to the roost. 16 Common gulls on the deck plus another 12 also >N, whilst a single Herring gull left the banking >SW.
Lesser Black Backed gulls were heading >S with 18 over towards their roost with around 100 Woodpigeons came in from the east and dropped down into the wood for the night.
Back down by the road a really light chested Mistle Thrush was taking the last few berries from a Rowan whilst 3 Magpies were noisy up in the Alders.
A dry, part cloudy forecast for tomorrow but with no wind forecast that sounds like a recipe for more fog to me, but we shall see.
