Fly Flatts, Problem with the geese.

                                        8 Pink Footed

2 of 4 possible Bean Geese. Call simliar to Greylag
                                               Long billed, dark underwing
                                             Pinks
                                                  Pinks
                                                  Odd balls
                                                        Nice sunset.

Late afternoon and a stop on Cold Edge Road first to scan the Red Crested Pochard on Leadbeater Dam which I could make out along with a Tufted but did,nt go down there as more than likely a feral
of which there is a large population in Britain now. Two show regular at Lister Park and Wibsey Park and I,ve had one in the past at Redcar Tarn, possibly the same bird doing the rounds.
On then to Fly Flatts with clear blue skies and sunshine on a
NW >4 but in contrast to yesterdays visit the area was quiet with just the usual Mallards and 3 Teal on the east bank. A walk the full length of the west bank failed to re locate the Snow Bunting which looks to have moved on probably overnight after a search this morning by DJS, AT, and JM failed to find the bird. First time we want overnight fog to hold the bird down it clears.
A last resort check of the boat yard area suddenly found geese coming over with 8 Pink Footed >SW followed by Greylag calls with 4 Greylag high to the west also heading >SW then more calls that were unfamiliar to me , similar to Greylag but deeper with 4 grey geese over the west bank looking bulkier bellied than Greylag.
All the birds were distant in the bright sunset making the photos poor but looking at the odd 4 they had dark underwings and long bills with dark heads. I,m swayed towards Bean Geese but the jury is still out on these 4 unless anyone out there is genned up on geese.
