Late afternoon and with mist already creeping in I thought it wise to do a quick tour of the reservoirs to check for Whoopers rather than wait until the morning which looks as if the fog will be down.
Fly Flatts was already misted and grey with just the usual Canadas and Mallards on the water and a few small gulls.
Got the first lot of Nyjer down and will continue now each visit throughout the summer.
On to Leeshaw which was damp and suffering from low cloud but alive with spring bird life having at least 30 Lapwing holding territory and up displaying.
8 Oystercatchers were present along with 5 Curlew and around 100 small gulls plus 5 LBBs.
3 Pink Footed Geese went over >E very high and in the mist.
132 Golden Plover were present at Upper Marsh but very distant at the far end of the field.
Leeming just held the usual domestic type stuff.
A disappointing first attack at the weekend when decent weather was forecast and the uplands ended up with mist.
On a brighter note, congratulations to Brittany Collier who has been highly commended from Halifax grammar school for her photography and has had a photo on display at the Focus on Society exhibition in London.
Most of you will have seen photos on my blog taken by her Mum Tracy Collier, well known for her Green Lane Little Owl photos, which , inspired by Tracy, Brittany took up the interest and concentrated her time around the Green Lane area attempting to get a good Kestrel shot.
Obviously the trips out with her Mum when she was younger have stuck with her, well done Brittany and Tracy.
