Another special for Mixenden

Male Gadwall, an area 1st for me.

A hybrid joins in the shoot

A late afternoon to Soil Hill to see if the Snow Bunting was still there found 4 cars parked by dog cak alley so that answered my question. On to Mixenden reservoir where all seemed quiet until I clocked a single duck, as usual, right out in the centre. A single duck always gets the blood pumping so I got round onto the west bank away from the glare of the sun and to my surprise, a male Gadwall.
This was joined with a drake Mallard and a hybrid which kept moving around but the Gadwall just kept drifting about in the middle, sometimes coming a little closer but always on full zoom.
This is my first Gadwall in my local area and I,m sure DJS will know if its a first for Mixenden, there are no records in NCDs Birds of Halifax unless there has been any more recent sightings.
Two days and two good birds, I can go back to work tomorrow a happy man.
