MIXENDEN p.m.            5 Herrings present

I left Queensbury with bright clear sky and some sun early morn but on arrival at Fly Flatts it was misty with a very low cloud base and heavy drizzle. By 0900 hrs it was raining heavily and the fog piling in so up stumps and back to Mixenden.
Mixy was overcast but bright and clear on a light W>3 at 6 degrees.
A low count of gulls this morning with only 8 Black Headed, 1 LBB and a single Herring with 2 Oystercatchers and a Cormorant on the east bank.
Just a pair of Mallard on the water along with 8 Canada geese so still awaiting Goldeneye. A flock of around 20 Redpoll were in the Alder trees by the mini roundabout whilst a Great Spotted Woodpecker flew into the Pine trees opposite.
A late afternoon visit was better for gulls with around 50 small gulls and 5 Herring but no sign of Oystercatchers or Cormorant. Otherwise, a single Pied Wagtail plus the usual species.
I did,nt check the west bank today as a tent was pitched by the water under the Alders with a camp fire going, both morning and afternoon.
Another mixed bag for tomorrow with some rain forecast on a very light southerly.
