Leeshaw a.m./ Ogden in the snow p.m.

LEESHAW                Over 400 geese present today
                                Single LBB gull
The Lapwings are in for a problem when the snow comes

                                    Busy fields

                                Unusual to get Kingfisher here

Oyk numbers up again to 37

                                Single Buzzard over
A rarity this winter, Golden Plover

OGDEN                  Kingfisher in usual spot

Another morning of pleasant conditions at Leeshaw with full cloud on a light NE>3 at minus 2 degrees.
Again, a hive of activity and very noisy with over 400 mixed Greylags and Canada geese moving between fields and the water along with around 300 Lapwing, some already starting sitting which will be poor for them when tomorrows snow arrives.
Oystercatcher numbers were up again with 37,breaking my record of 35 a couple of years ago but only 3 Curlew seen this morning. A pair of Teal were on the water along with a single LBB gull but very few small gulls present.
Unusual to find a Kingfisher down by the overflow beck, possibly due to the pond in Oxenhope frozen where it seems to spent most of its time. A single Buzzard flew overhead filling the sky with Geese, Lapwings and Oystercatchers, an amazing sight.
A quick check on the water at Ogden mid p.m. to see if  DJSs Whoopers from this morning had come down but a very poor show on the water with just a handful of small gulls whilst the Kingfisher was down in the sluice gate area as usual. I spoke to warden CS who informed me that he had a Little Egret present this morning by the top pond which made me think of walking round but with the snow by now looking threatening I thought I,d be wiser to head for home.
Birding,s looking grim for the next couple of days at least with a full mashing of snow on the cards but Lynda, being thoughtful, and not wanting me to get bored, loaded me up with wallpaper at B&Q this afternoon so that I would have something to do to keep me occupied, lovely !!!  Have you seen the price of wallpaper lately, the problem now is not putting it on the wall but paying for it.
