Mega Mad Migration Morning, ( say that fast ! )

                                                                     Redwing

                                                   1 of 6 Pied Wagtail
                                                  Little Owl

Looking >W over the Causeway Foot Col to the Withins
                                                                and the wind farm.
Several Common gull on the cricket pitch

The Canadas and white Greylag that flew high >SE yesterday
over Qby station are now here.

Excellent moving conditions this morning ahead of an approaching weather front with a low E>3
at 9 degrees in full light cloud and good visibility.
The flood gates opened in style this morning with migrants piling through both S and SW on a broad front at 2 levels. Woodpigs were reasonably low whilst Redwing and Fieldfare came through high with most not being visible to the naked eye but every scan of the bins produced skies full.
Redwings piled through in their thousands with 5 to 10 minute intervals before the next wave arrived. This continued until around 1045 hrs before numbers decreased but continued to come until just after midday. At one point it became overwhelming with wall to wall birds showing in a 360 degrees scan.
A near as possible count was established with undoubtedly several hundreds, if no thousands, missed due to several up in the cloud plus the overwhelming mass of birds. There will no doubt be some record breaking counts on tonights vis mig site, trektellen.
Early afternoon I decided to walk to the west of the village to avoid the, now increased E>4, which would be blowing across the Aire Valley and into the Dailie fields. Old Guy Road and Roper Lane was more sheltered looking >W over the Causeway Foot Col towards The Withins and Fly Flatts.
As quick as the flood gates opened this morning they had closed again early afternoon other than a few Woodpigs still on the move. Old Guy Road cricket field held several Common gull along with 6 Pied Wagtail whilst a single Herring gull was in a field opposite along with around 200 Starling.
A lower field had a single Little Owl and the group of Canadas with the single white Greylag which I saw heading high >SE yesterday over the station. One Fieldfare dropped down behind a wall in the field beyond the cricket pitch. Quite a day.
