Leeshaw/ Fly Flatts- (permit only)

LEESHAW RESERVOIR                      One of several Common gull
                                                     2 Oystercatchers present

                                           Lapwing numbers building
FLY FLATTS                                  2 new arrivals ,  Oystercatches

                                            Not minding the crashing waves

                                                  Very distant Ringed Plover

A bright and breezing morning at Leeshaw reservoir with a strong W>4 increasing throughout the day with clear sky and sunshine at 2 degrees.
Just the usual species this morning with around 200 small gulls on the water but no Herrings whilst the Dipper was down in the beck.
Lapwings are increasing slowly with 26 now present along with 2 Oystercatchers.
Fly Flatts mid afternoon was wild with a gale force W>8 blowing at 45 m.p.h. and gusting up to strong gale W>9 at 47 m.p.h. making the water look like the North sea and very exciting to watch as waves crashed over the floating jetty which was straining its anchor chains.
Amazingly, 2 new in, Oystercatchers and the Ringed Plover were on the east bank cobbles taking the full blast of the wind and water spray but feeding between the cobbles unperturbed by the conditions. Nothing else showing but far too windy to walk the west bank.
Tomorrows forecast looks good with a very light wind and plenty sunshine before another wet and windy weekend continuing through next week.
