Pink Footed Geese, 56 >NW passing north of the Nab.
Very distant up in the cloud, highlighted on auto contrast.
A real horror of a morning with a strong SW>6 and heavy rain at 5 degrees, so after a very wet dog walk over Foxhill I took advantage of the weather by bathing and grooming one of the dogs. Thats all 3 done now for another 6 weeks.
By mid afternoon it was dry and the wind turned to W>5 so a visit to Fly Flatts was in order. I had to park on the top road today as the farmer was busy gathering his sheep and lambs before tomorrows storm approaches but this turned out lucky as whilst I was walking down the track I got a skein of 56 Pinkies heading >NW but well to the north of the Nab. If I had driven down I would probably have missed them.
A walk along the west bank produced the Ringed Plover, 3 Oystercatchers and 2 Curlew but all at distance whilst 3 Raven and 2 Buzzard were in the air.
On the way back, 2 Oystercatchers and a Curlew were in the Skylark field on Cold Edge Road where there are some decent ponds at the moment. A few Lapwings were also in the field but no Golden Plover, although it is a little early for this species at this location.
Sounds like a case of batten down the hatches for the next few days starting late afternoon tomorrow.
