Early morn at Leeshaw.

LEESHAW                               2 Little Owls returned to their usual spot

A pair of Stonechat working the south bank
                                                             Male

                                                              Female

2 drake Teal on the water.

A decent early morn at Leeshaw with broken cloud and brief sunshine at 2 degrees on a moderate W>5
with rain starting by 10 00 hours as I was tackling up.
A poor show of gulls with around 50 small gulls moving around the fields along with 2  1st w Herrings and 2 male Teal plus 8 Mallard on the water.
The group of Meadow Pipits is up to 24 very mobile birds flitting around from one field to the other whilst a pair of Stonechat were working their way along the top of the south banking which is a good muddy feeding area at the moment where workmen are cleaning out the conduit.
One of the workmen told me they had moved hundreds of frogs out of the conduit before they could start clearing it out with the machine.
The resident pair of Little Owls are back in their usual spring/summer position after moving to a more sheltered area by the farm to over-winter and will probably go on to breed again this year.
A good mornings birding but rain started to move in and the wind increased as I was tackling up at 1000 hrs leaving a very windy afternoon, as we got back from Halifax, with near gale force winds and heavy rain so a pointless task turning out for the late afternoon session.
Seems like we still have another 5 days of strong winds and rain to face yet until Friday when the wind is forecast to finally drop in time for some snow falling.
