Checking the gulls, Ogden.

Reservoir was 50% frozen over today.
A good selection of around 300 small gulls.

                                              2nd winter Herring
Common gull with RH White leg ring LH silver metal.
Number too worn to read but white ring on right leg usually come from
                        Neumunster, Nth Germany.

                                                   2 adult Herring gulls.
                                              2nd winter Herring.

A cool -4 degrees at Ogden this morning on a NE>3 but bright, clear blue skies and sunshine but again no sign of a thaw throughout the day.
With the water 50% frozen the Goldeneye are keeping away but a record count of small gulls, around 50/50 Common and Black Headed. Just the 3 big gulls with 2 adult Herrings and a 2nd winter Herring. A good scan through found just one wearing a ring, this being a Common gull  with a white plastic ring on its right leg and the usual metal ring on its left leg. The gull was a long way out in bright dazzling sunshine but zoomed in the number was badly distorted.
Previous gulls I have had in the past wearing a white ring on the right leg have been rung in Neumunster, North Germany.
A walk around the water found a half hearted Tit flock but only around 30 birds, these being Blue,Great and Coal Tit.
