Back to square one with the snow. A blog for gull lovers.

Grounded once more on top ot t'ill wi deep snow so another pre recorded blog which I prepare on standby for non or poor birding days. It was pleasing to see that yesterdays blog inspired MC to write that excellent comment on how he and brother Phil started up in birding over 50 years ago, two birders that have truly served their apprenticeship at birding.
Also interesting to learn that bird book author Steve Madge was warden at Fairburn Ings, a place I used to visit most Sunday mornings. I remember dashing into the info centre and excitedly telling the warden that I had just found a Willow Tit by the boardwalk. He looked at me and calmly replied, "You mean like these 4 on the feeders outside my window". Obviously a common bird over there.
Just one more of my original books today ,bought in 1969, which may have been on Mick , Dave or any other original birders bookshelf. The rest of my early Collins etc bird id books I reluctantly got rid of over the years.
Otherwise I have just put a selection of some of my gull images showing the species we are most likely to have a chance of seeing, especially over the winter months .

Bought in 1969. More of a read than a reference with lots of detail on each species explaining movement, habitat, nesting etc. Also coloured diagrams of their eggs.
