Leeshaw Reservoir

Gulls in the fresh manured field

A count of 12 Grey Partridge.

A very dark overcast morning with full low cloud and fog on the tops. A moderate W>4 gusting 5 was blowing at a cool 8 degrees.
A disappointing visit with the only wildfowl on the water being 15 Mallard, 9 Canada and a single Greylag, though plenty of gulls were present with LBB, Herring, Common and Black Headed but all very mobile in the cold wind, moving around the fields and water.
The field above the track was alive with game birds with a count of 15 Pheasant and 12 Grey Partridge as well as 5 Stock Dove. Grey Partridge has been a rare sighting previously but this year has been a good breeding season for them with double figures showing at Leeshaw, Fly Flatts and Perseverance Road, Queensbury.
Otherwise, apart from the regulars, and a handful of Meadow Pipits over, things were very quiet. At least I don't have to think about going to Leeshaw next week as once again the road to Oxenhope is to be closed for 6 days from Tuesday.
A mix of cloud and sunshine for morning on another moderate westerly at 9 degrees.
