OGDEN Around 100 small gulls on the water
About 50% were Commons.
Treecreeper in the snowy trees
A bright clear start at Fly Flatts first light but by 0900 hrs low cloud was rolling in from the north and by 0915 hrs the fog was down and bringing snow at minus 1 degree on a cold NNW>4.
A walk on the west bank, plus checking out the compound, provided a pair of Reed Buntings and not another bird of any description. As I was tackling up a distant skein of Pinks could be heard but unable to get a direction in the dense fog.
A dodgy drive home with the snow now lying on the roads and cars starting to get stuck coming up the hill from Mixenden and Bradshaw. Queensbury was well covered but luckily stopped by midday leaving a sunny but sub temperature afternoon.
Mid afternoon and a very slippery visit to Ogden found around 100 small gulls on the water with 50% being Commons. A good move of Herrings was apparent with some large numbers going over >SW with groups in formation.
The west bank held the usual Tit flock plus Goldcrests and 2 Treecreepers.
All in all a poor days birding but as Lynda says, " its better than being back working under wet dripping cars", can,t argue with that.
