A snowy start to the day at Queensbury.
MIXENDEN Common gulls outnumbered Black Headed
Very few gulls this p.m.
Blackbird foraging in the snow
Clean looking ad Black Headed
Single drake Goosander
1 Mistle Thrush present.
A very snowy morning up on the tops with a 3" overnight covering leaving road conditions poor. Snow showers continued throughout the day until mid afternoon when I set off for Mixenden Reservoir.
A bright late afternoon with clear skies but a biting W>3 at 1 degree.
A slight improvement on the wildfowl with a single male Goosander on the water along with a pair of Mallard but still no returning Goldeneye as yet.
Very few gulls with around 100 small gulls, 75% of which were Commons, and no sign of the Black Headed with the yellow ring although they spent very little time on the east bank due to a constant flow of dog walkers. Just 2 adult Herring gulls and a single adult LBB whilst a Heron was under the trees on the west bank.
Again a shortfall of small passerines with just one Blackbird and a single Mistle Thrush and nothing in the west bank waterside trees.
Warm and wet is the story for tomorrow with a moderate S turning SW wind.
