Leeshaw Reservoir

LEESHAW RESERVOIR                       Goosanders in to land.
                                                   6 male Teal
                                                   Herring gull
                                                 3rd winter
                                            Small gulls on the gantry

Just 2 ad Lesser Black Backed
Strangely only 2 Greylags with none in the fields
and no Canadas since new year.

A bright clear start to the morning at Leeshaw with a light WSW>3 at 1 degree with a heavy frost and thick fog looking down in the valleys. By mid watch the sky had become cloudy but not affecting visibility.
A good start off at first light with 6 male Teal on the water just giving me time to snap them in the centre of the water before they went to the far side of the reservoir feeding in the reeds where they remained throughout.
A good turnout of Goosander with 5 males and 3 females whilst around 200 small gulls were on the water with several more scattered around the fields. Up to 27 Herring gulls were present but only 2 LBBs.
A group of 6 Meadow Pipits were in the fields along with 2 Lapwing but only 2 Greylag flyovers whereas around this time each winter I usually have three figure counts of mixed Greylag, Canadas and a few Pink Footed as well as a group of 44 Barnacles in the  goose field 5/1/2013.
A decent afternoon weather wise so, being weekend, time to avoid Ogden and Mixenden and catch up to some jobs instead.
