Suspected this adult Herring as being a Yellow Legged.
Dark mantled and streaking around eye.
Centre Herring in summer plumage, no streaking
A total of 17 Herring gulls
Dark mantled bird, centre.
Very white underwing
Dark mantled bird in flight, Scandinavian argentatus
Sunshine and showers mid afternoon at Mixenden reservoir on a SW>4 but well sheltered by the west bank with a temperature of 6 degrees.
A good variation of gulls to go through in hopes of Iceland or Med gull but not to be, but some really smart looking Herring gulls which are always a pleasure to watch.
With around 100 Small gulls and 17 Herrings to check through it soon passed an hour on even though there were no wildfowl of any description on the water and no passerines in the water side trees.
The gull I suspected of being a possible Yellow Legged turned out to be a Scandinavian argentatus when it flew and showed its leg colour as opposed to the lighter mantled British argenteus.
Looking like a good day and light wind tomorrow so might even get back to Fly Flatts at last.
