Leeshaw/Mixenden , Roll on February!

MIXENDEN                     Male and female Goldeneye at distance.

Another icy cold day with a temp of 5 degrees but feeling more like 1 degree given the cold wind factor with a moderate WSW>4 inc SW>5 with broken cloud.
Ultra quiet at Leeshaw early morn with only around 100 small gulls in the field or on the water along with a pair of Goosander whilst 3 Meadow Pipits were on the banking.
A good check through the small gulls for Med gull once again failed and strangely, the 300 plus Canada and Greylag flock which are usually present this time of year, are nowhere to be found.
Mixenden mid afternoon at last produced the first Goldeneye of the new year with a pair present but keeping well at distance. Gulls were also quiet at this site with just around 50 small gulls and a single adult LBB.
Get a couple of weeks into February and things will start to kick off, says he, hopefully.
