Fly Flatts a.m./ Mixenden p.m.

MIXENDEN                        Unusual to have gulls on the school roof

                                                 East banking
A good count of small gulls

                                                      ad  Common
Common front, 2nd winter Herring rear
Sprucing up ready to roost, Common and Herring
                                        Common, Herring, Black Headed
                                                       ad Herring

                                                  1st winter Herring

A bright start to the day at Fly Flatts with a W>3 at 3 degrees but clouds over by 0900 hrs with some light showers.
Fly Flatts let me down again making my 4th bird less visit with just 14 Mallard on the water, 1 Common gull >NE and 9 Red Grouse. Time to draw a line under this venue until the end of February apart from a few security checks on the boat club area.
The afternoon visit to Mixenden had plenty gulls with around 150 small gulls on the water and another 100 ish on the school roof ,which is unusual.
At least 17 Herring were present but as always these soon filtered away by 1415 hrs leaving me to check the Black Headed for Med but to no avail.
A pair of Goosander were on the water keeping their distance whilst the west bank waterside trees were void of bird life.
