Cullingworth gull field Around 600 gulls
Down to about 50 Herring today
All keeping very distant
Different weather conditions altogether at Fly Flatts this morning with a NW>4 at 11 degrees but very dark and low fast moving clouds after a short lived red ball sunrise. Light rain showers throughout the morning watch developing into heavy drizzle and mist by mid afternoon.
Very little movement over the Fly Flatts air space and poor visibility over the west moor with no chance of Pinks in the low cloud if any were moving this morning.
Just a few bits and bobs on the move including my first squadron of Starlings which could be said to be definite movers in their usual direction of >NW.
In search of gulls mid afternoon I headed for Cullingworth gull field which held around 600 gulls but the birds were very mobile today flying around and re settling constantly and keeping well to the back half of the field which, even scoping, is too far to find something special, for me anyway.
On then to Ten Yards Lane checking the 3 main fields but very few gulls. The hot spot field held around 60 but hidden below the dip in the field and by now heavy drizzle was cutting down visibility.
Next and final stop was the Roper Lane watch point with 30 minutes sky watch over the valley and Causeway Foot Col to see if anything was moving but once again the skies were quiet and fog was rolling in from the west so it was up stumps and head for home.
Some early morning fog forecast for tomorrow which hopefully won,t develop.
